Abstract

Most recent than ever, it is becoming clearer and evident that youth empowerment is a necessary factors for economic development of any nation in the world. In Nigeria, the youth comprises the bulk of the population which Awogbele and Iwuamadi (2001) estimated about 60% of the total population of the country. The youth make up of young males and females with excess capacities, energy, strength, aptitudes, vigour, and potentials to be harness and tapped. Various factors are responsible for lack of youth empowerment which brings about so many social ills in our country today. Despite all efforts by government, individual and corporate bodies to empower our youth, there is still unemployment issues. Lack of entrepreneurial counselling services is seen as one of the major factors responsible for the failure of entrepreneurial empowerment in Nigeria. The study recommends that entrepreneurial counselling should be given utmost priority in any entrepreneurial intervention programme in Nigeria in order to empower the youth for National development.
